Learning To Be More Grateful

I'll be the first to admit that no matter how well things may be going in my life, I still find myself complaining about the smallest things. I don't often stop to think about the things I am truly grateful for. But, I'm happy to say it's something I've been working on. I really think that to be more grateful you have to allow yourself to be happier and more satisfied with everything going on around you, regardless of current and past struggles. Gratitude really is a conscious decision. If you are more aware of your goal to be grateful and practice it consistently, you will find yourself appreciating what you have now, even if it may not be much.

Last week Chase's dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor and it made me realize how quickly the people you care about so much can be gone. After we visited him at the hospital I immediately thought about my parents and the next day I went and visited them to tell them how much I love and appreciate them. My parents never ask for anything and always give, give, give. That very moment, I stopped focusing on what I thought I was lacking in my life and replaced these thoughts with what I am thankful for. I think it's so important to spend time with people who matter the most to you, regardless of how busy you are. For me, that's with family. I've never been the best at showing people in my life how much I appreciate them, but it is something I'm working on. I think showing even a little gratitude to the people that have done so much for you goes a long way. Even if it's as simple as a phone call.

One of the biggest things I've learned when it comes to gratitude is that a lot of the time we don't realize how good we actually have it because we are so caught up in the things we don't have. If you ever have that bit of doubt creeping up on you, think about all the people that may not have been given the same opportunities as you in life. It's time to stop playing the comparison game. If you are constantly comparing yourself to others, you will always find someone more successful, more intelligent, and attractive than you are. It's time to start counting your blessings more.

So let me ask, what are you all grateful for? I'd love to know in the comments below:) Thanks for stopping by!
